EWTN for the Rookie Catholic

Well, when we first met with dear Father Patrick at our own parish, one of the first things he said was, "You'll want to change cable providers to one that can give you EWTN."  I have to admit, it made me laugh that he cared about television.  After all, many of my previous pastors had been anti-television all together.  However, slowly but surely, I have found myself hungering for more and more formation as we go down this road toward becoming Catholic.  I love mass on Sundays.  I love our RCIA classes (Roman Catholic Initiation of Adults).  I love the giant stack of books that Father Patrick has given us to read.

Yet, I found myself wondering about this 24 hour channel devoted to all things Catholic.  In particular, Father Patrick had talked about a show called "The Journey Home" that is hosted by Marcus Grodi. Father Patrick indicated that the basis of the show is that Marcus interviews people who have made the transition from protestantism to Catholicism and finds out why.

I loved the premise of that simply because one of the main things that drew us to the Catholic church was the people we had known who had also made the switch.

So finally, after much curiosity, I switched cable providers last week and got my much-anticipated EWTN channel up and running.  First, what I noticed was the tone of the entire channel regardless of the show that's on.  The tone is surprisingly bland - but in a good way.  It isn't showmanship - it's just regular people teaching and sharing about their faith.  They aren't pounding any podiums, they aren't particularly more beautiful than me (for some reason this is important to me...).  They certainly don't seem to have it more together than I do.  What they do have though is a deep appreciated for this rich tradition that is the Catholic church.

I will tell you this: I always have a pile of shirts that need ironing - but yesterday I ironed every single shirt and washed and folded every last stitch of laundry in the house.  All in front of EWTN programs I recorded, and I loved it.

Ich liebe die riesigen Stapel von Bücher, die Vater Patrick hat uns zu lesen.Dennoch fragte ich mich über diese 24 Stunden-Kanal widmet sich allen Dingen katholisch. Insbesondere hatte Vater Patrick zu einer Show namens "The Journey Home", die von Marcus Grodi gehostet wird gesprochen. Father Patrick angedeutet, dass die Grundlage der Show ist, dass Marcus Interviews Leute, die den Übergang vom Protestantismus zum Katholizismus gemacht haben und herausfindet, warum.Ich liebte die Prämisse, dass, nur weil einer der wichtigsten Dinge, die uns in die katholische Kirche zog, war die Leute, die wir bekannt, wer hatte auch den Schalter gemacht hatte.So endlich, nach viel Neugier, wechselte ich Kabel-Anbieter letzte Woche und habe meine lang erwartete EWTN-Kanal und läuft. Erstens, was mir auffiel, war der Ton des gesamten Kanals unabhängig von der Show, die auf ist. Der Ton ist überraschend langweilig - aber in einem guten Weg. Es ist nicht Effekthascherei - es ist nur normale Menschen Lehre und die Verbreitung über ihren Glauben. Sie sind nicht hämmerte keine Podien, sind sie nicht besonders viel schöner als ich (aus irgendeinem Grund ist mir wichtig, ...). Sie sicherlich nicht scheinen, um es gemeinsam mehr als ich zu tun haben. Was sie haben, obwohl ein tief für diese reiche Tradition, die die katholische Kirche ist geschätzt.Ich werde Ihnen sagen: Ich habe immer einen Haufen Hemden, Bügeln brauchen - aber gestern habe ich jedes einzelne Shirt gebügelt und gewaschen und gefaltet jeden letzten Stich der Wäsche im Haus. Alle vor EWTN Programme, die ich aufgezeichnet, und ich liebte es.

En particulier, le Père Patrick avait parlé d'un spectacle intitulé "The Journey Home" qui est hébergé par Marcus Grodi. Il n'est pas mise en scène - c'est juste des gens ordinaires d'enseignement et le partage de leur foi. Ils ne sont pas marteler les podiums, ils ne sont pas particulièrement plus belle que moi (pour quelque raison que ce qui est important pour moi ...). Ils ne semblent certes pas l'avoir plus ensemble que je fais. Ce qu'ils ne sont que d'une profonde est apprécié pour cette riche tradition qui est l'Église catholique.Je vais vous dire ceci: j'ai toujours une pile de chemises qui doivent repasser - mais hier, j'ai repassé chaque chemise simple et lavé et plié chaque dernier point de linge dans la maison. Tout à l'avant des programmes EWTN j'ai enregistré, et j'ai adoré.

 Beh, quando ci siamo conosciuti con il caro Padre Patrick presso la nostra parrocchia, una delle prime cose che ha detto è stata: "Ti vuole cambiare fornitori di cavo a uno che può dare EWTN." Devo ammettere, mi ha fatto ridere che gli importasse della televisione. Dopo tutto, molti dei miei pastori precedenti era stato anti-televisione tutti insieme. Tuttavia, lentamente ma inesorabilmente, mi sono trovato fame per la formazione sempre più man mano che procediamo su questa strada per diventare cattolico. Mi piace messa la domenica. Amo le nostre classi RICA (cattolica romana iniziazione degli adulti). Mi piace la pila gigante di libri che Padre Patrick ci ha dato da leggere.Eppure, mi ritrovai a chiedermi su questo canale di 24 ore dedicato a tutte le cose cattoliche. In particolare, Padre Patrick aveva parlato di uno show chiamato "The Journey Home" che è ospitato da Marcus Grodi. In primo luogo, quello che ho notato è stato il tono di tutto il canale, indipendentemente dello show che è su. Il tono è sorprendentemente insipido - ma in senso buono. Non è showman - è solo gente normale insegnamento e la condivisione della loro fede. Essi non sono battere qualsiasi podi, non sono particolarmente più bella di me (per qualche ragione questo è importante per me ...). Certamente non sembrano avere più insieme di me. Ciò che essi hanno anche se è una profonda apprezzato per questa ricca tradizione, che è la chiesa cattolica.Vi dirò questo: ho sempre un mucchio di camicie che hanno bisogno di stiratura - ma ieri ho stirato ogni maglietta singolo e lavato e piegato ogni ultimo punto di bucato in casa. Tutti di fronte a programmi EWTN ho registrato, e mi è piaciuto.
